New to biking, been a fan for a while!

I love the Tour, and watching it. I have always been interested in the sport but have never had the opportunity or the time. . . (lame excuse I know.) but now I am headin' off to school and figure that biking will be the best way for me to get around. Just got a hold of some second hand road bikes, gonna peice them together and see where I can go from there. Any words of advice or hints for a complete newbie? Anything would be appreciated! Look forward to learning a lot from this forum and from my experiences on two wheels!

Welcome HoTai to Bike Forums!

A lot of people will make an old road bike into a singlespeed or fixed gear bicycle. If you check out the SS/FG forum, you'll find lots of info. on how to do that. The Mechanics Forum is very helpful, too.

Hello HoTai, it sounds as if you could stand to visit the Classic & Vintage forum, as well. Where are you located? Sometimes Craigslist/thrift shops/garage sales offer a great used older bike that can be made very useful with just a few dollars worth of work.

Welcome to BF!
