New to this

I'm new to this and don't really know where to begin. I'm 44 years old, live in Minnesota, and started riding my bicycle (after 28 years) for two reasons. First, the state doesn't want me to operate a motorized vehicle for a while and second, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on May 5th. Since then, I have gone from 242 lbs to 212 lbs and want to upgrade from the old Schwinn Traveler III. I see a Peugeot UO8 12 speed and a Peugeot P8 10 speed on craigslist. Don't know why I want a Peugeot, or even IF I do. Murray, Schwinn, and Peugeot are the only three names I'm familiar with. Can you help me please? I'm confident you can as I'm riding in the "biking for DUMMIES group."

May I suggest you hit your LBS (local bike shop) and go test out some bikes. That's always a terrible thing for me to do ... I have several shops around me - most carry some of the same brands - but then each may specialize in other certain bike types. Tis a fun thing to do (and dangerous - especially if you GET THE BUG) - but it may help you settle on what you want.

And then you think of the next bike you want .... have fun and explore!

Plus I'm not sure what kind of riding you were aiming at either, supposing road riding - touring? commuting? etc.

Thanks tude, guess right now its road riding since that's what I've been doing. Riding the roads to get to and from, and to lose some weight. I have come to really enjoy it though!
