Seattle student switches to bike for commute/fitness
Hey, all! I'm a 35-year-old returning to school at the University of Washington to get my undergraduate degree. The program I'm in is really demanding, and I'm having difficulty finding time for running. So, I thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get a basic road bike to commute on. I've already gotten a ton of help from the forums on what kind of bike to look for. Looking forward to gleaning more information (and possibly helping others, once my knowledge base increases).

Hey East Hill,
I was looking at getting a new entry-level Raleigh from Recycled Cycles - a 2007 Grand Sport - but after getting some input from folks in the "Commuting" section, I'm thinking my best bet is to get a used bike on Craigslist until I know what I really want. It sounds like I can get much more for my money that way anyway. I've been searching Craigslist some, and looking for used bikes at shops, but there don't seem to be many used bikes at shops in my price rance ($550-600 or below). Any suggestions on good shops to check for used bikes?
Thanks!

Not many except for these:

CL is a good way to go, I've gotten a few bikes from CL in the past.
