Hello from Southern CA!

Hello everyone!

Grew up very active in sports...played baseball for 10 years and a couple years of football & basketball. Also spent lots of time at the beach and riding my beach cruiser back in my teens. Owned a professional drag racing team for the last 7 years and just sold it last week!! During my racing years I got into the worst shape of my life..wasn't physically active and didn't eat right...Got into way too many bad health habbits. I'll be 35 this August, but I feel as good as I was when I was playing baseball! Been lifting weights and exercising for the last year and thought it would be great to ride again. Bought a Specialized moutain bike 6 months ago and been really getting into the best shape of my life and really enjoying riding. Last week I switched my mountain tires over to Specialized road tires to get some speed up on my bike when I'm riding on the road....very happy with them and getting ready to purchase a road bike so I can do both. I'm hooked on biking and getting ready to spend some $ on another bike. Looking at spending in the range of $1200 to $1600 on a road bike...Any good thoughts out there? I'm sure I'll spend much more down the road, but for now I want to stay on a budget. Please let me know. Right now I've been riding 5 to 6 days a week and been limiting my runs at 8 to 30 miles a trip, depending if I'm riding in the dirt or on the road. During my racing days, I was a very technical oriented person....worked on everything from chassis construction to building the engines...I was always learning and wanted to know more and more. I know I'll be the same way on bikes! Looking forward to posting and replying in the bikeforums as this seems to be one of the more civil places I've seen on the net!

Thanks!

Welcome!

Glad to see another addict out there...

You may want to check through some of the current and older posts in the Road Bike and General Discussion sections. There have been quite a few people posting questions recently on what kind of road bike other people recommend. I've seen some great posts there.

All right, hope to see you posting more!

Welcome aboard Bman,

Good to have yet another SoCal in the mix.. seems like quit a few more in the past months or so... I agree with Koffee.. check out the Road Bike section here... pretty informative... bike choices are pretty personal, but I'm sure you can get some ideas what to look for :-)

See ya around

Jeff
