chitown noob
hi_
total noob from chicago. noobie to biking AND to forums. i involuntarily gave up my car and am now a 100% bicycle and public trans commuter. i've been doing this for about 3 months now. i live in the burbs and work/school downtown (about 28 miles one way; school & work are about 4miles apart)
about me: i'm a 25yr old art school chick. i ride a modified road bike from target. slowly learning bike mechanics through tinkering and lucky enough to have a friend to teach me a bit i just bought a schwinn varsity for cheap from craigslist and hoping to convert it to a fixie by next summer (sooo excited!!1)
so far, i'm loving how fat my wallet is getting by not paying for insurance or gas anymore. loving learning the city and getting more exercise. hating that my train stops running after 10pm and not being able to take my bike on during rush hour (okay, not hate, but dislike alot.) fearing winter!
what else... i had my 1st bike stolen 2 weeks after i got it. total example of noob-iness: i locked it to a bike rack downtown with just a cable lock (stoopid!) lucky it wasn't expensive or anything.
anyway, that's me in a nutshell (as far as biking is concerned).
