Hey y'all

I'm Ceezer, the Fallen Buckeye. I got a mountain bike ('06 Specialized Hardrock Sport) in January of '06 as I was approaching 30 and wanted to get back into shape to improve quality of life and longevity. In April of '06 I took a spill that not only mangled my bike but put a hurt on me that left me on the DL for several months while I recovered. Then I got lazy while I was inactive so my bike sat in the corner of the garage for a year and a half. I'm wanting to get back on it so I got everything fixed & replaced and put some slicks on for the time being because I want to use the road to get back into things. I was looking around for some motivation, found this board, saw that it encompassed all walks of biking (being a life-long hot rodder, I also have a fondness for alt/custom (Kustom) bikes and cruisers) and thought this was a good spot to settle down.

I'm originally from OH/WV but have lived in the Carolinas for the last 12 years - the last 3 here around Sumter, SC. I'm coming up on 31, have a daughter who just turned 7, and a wife in school for nursing. My wife (who is a NC girl) and I are both former Marines. I've been a Defense contractor for several years (which is what brought us to Sumter/Shaw) but am between jobs. When my wife finishes up school I'm thinking about going back and getting into healthcare (radiology tech) where I can help people, wear pajamas to work, and ride my bike without having to worry about sweating up a shirt & tie (I'm not a shirt & tie guy to begin with). We're also wanting to relocate and get (back) into the mountains when she finishes up and looking primarily at Greenville, SC and Roanoke, VA so if anyone has the skinny on these areas I'm all ears.

I look forward to getting to know y'all and having some fun. Thanks for having me.

*Edit - Oh yeah, go Bucks!

Hello Ceezer, it's good to see that you did not let your accident on the MTB deter you from getting back on a bike and riding .

Do you actually own an AltBike? We'd love to see photos in the AltBike forum, but even if you don't currently own one, we'd love to have you come visit us there.

Welcome to BF!

No, not yet. I used to have a 67 Stingray that I wanted to do something with but I had it stored at my mom's in Ohio for years and she put it in a yard sale before I could get it back (not her fault, she called to ask if there was anything I wanted to save and I said no, forgetting I had it there).

That kind of riding would be hard to support in this area, anyway. Everything is spread out by highways and traffic is dangerous (lots of speed racers around here). That's just more reason to look forward to getting somewhere like Greenville or Roanoke, where I could hop on my bike and ride into town for a coffee or just to cruise around and relax.

I took a quick look at a map of Sumter, and I see what you mean. It's as if every road in or out is a multiply named highway, ugh!
