Finally found the introductions page! . I'm a 55-year-old woman with 2 grown sons and 4 grandchildren. I started riding this spring for the first time since my childhood on a Bianchi Brava. At first I was miserable--everything hurt--but within a month, I was completely hooked. Over the summer I rode nearly everyday, putting 2k miles on the Brava. I live in a beautiful place—the Northern California coast and wine country--and the countryside here is perfect for bike riding. It’s especially beautiful now with the fall colors in the vineyards. I'm thinking now of training for a triathlon next summer, since I have been a runner and swimmer for many years. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a WSD Madone, which I love to ride. Of course, I’ll keep the Bianchi, too. We have a really great cycling club here and they have been a huge help to me, but I prefer to ride by myself. It’s my one chance to truly get away from everything and everyone (I work with the public all day. Need I say more?) Anyway, I know I will get a lot out of participating in these forums. I have much to learn!

Hello farandaway, I don't know if you've discovered the regional forums yet, but you might want to scope out the Northern California regional forum to say hi there, too.
Are you in Sonoma County? I used to live in Graton/Sebastopol/SR a number of years ago, and if it hadn't been so hot in California, I'd probably still be living there.
Welcome to BF!

welcome farandaway. Be glad you roughed it through the difficult part. Many are not patient enough or tough enough. You did good.

Yeah, I live in Sonoma County, but in a cooler part of it, nearer the coast. Perfect cycling weather much of the year. My family has been here since the gold rush. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Sounds as if you are in Fort Bragg! That would have been just too far for me to get to work, unfortunately, because it would have solved the problem of too much heat .
