Tx Daytripper
Howdy, Folks! Just getting started biking and so far, so good. This seems like a great web site and I am excited to be here. I ride a Trek 7.6 and really like it. I have to admit though, that I am riding a lot farther than I thought I would be. That is because I have hooked up with the friend who loves distance. We are going on 40 to 50 mile rides, which are great, but my hands seem to go numb from the straight bar. Is it possible to put an aerobar on (if the true roadsters wouldnt sneer at me) or some other type of additoin that would make it possible to change hand positions??....i wold appreciate any thoughts or ideas... thanx and its great to be a member......CJ

A cheaper and much easier option is adding bar ends. Go to your LBS for different styles.

My most comfortable position is on the brake hoods of my road bike.... so I bought bull-horns for my other bike. It was then that I realized when I go on long rides, I like the roadie bars because of this....
Hand's on the flat end of the drops Hand's in the curve of drops Hands on the brake hoods Hands on the "shoulders" hands on the flat part (not at the same time ;) ) Many positions for my hands, and I can twist my arms all different ways, as well as move my back a little. I also have aero bars, but have used them less and less as I ride with more people. Not so comfortable for long distances either... atleast for my back. I've never been into mountain biking, so I know nothing about bar ends... maybe those will give you some diff. positions also. Have fun, before you know it you'll be doing centuries. ;) |
