My name is Barry. I'm 56 years old and an Aerospace Engineer at the AFB. My wife actually found your site, but it was I who boldly responded to a post!

I am actually an upright rider (riding a Softride Roadwing) who wants to become a bent rider also. I have a Barcroft Virginia GT (which I inherited from my wife only because it was too long for her and her weight distribution was too far forward.) We just bought her a new 2003 Lightning Phantom that fits her better.

I actually only started riding the Barcroft a couple of days ago, and I know I have a long road ahead to develop those bent legs. I went for a 12 mile ride tonight and was really disappointed that I could only do 7-8 mph up a hill. I hope that will get better.

My wife's bike was just purchased on Saturday and she really hasn't had a chance to try it out yet.

My plans are to convert the Barcroft handlebars riser stem to a Terracycle riser and Rans handlebar. I'll be working with Bill Cook at Barcroft to get the right parts to make this conversion. I would like to get the new mesh seat or Garrie Hill CF seat as soon a Bill Cook offers it as an accessory.

I'm a little intimidated riding with our club members, because I know right now I will be pulling up the rear on any ride. But there are a few recumbent riders in the group and maybe I can fit in.

that's about it for now.

Welcome Barry!

I'm sure your speed will go up as you get more comfortable and adjust to riding in a bent. Every person I've talked to riding a bent tells me that they fly on a bent. I got on a bent at the Chicago Bike Show, and I was slow too, but the more I rode, the more I was able to get comfortable riding it. I was falling over all the time, but by the end of the 3 days, I was zipping around the area. It will just take time, but with time served in the saddle, I bet you'll be leading the pack by the beginning of next summer! Don't let intimidation hold you back from experiencing a great time on the bike and the chance to work with folks who will push you into becoming the faster bent rider I KNOW you can become!

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with the bent riding. Now go out there and join that cycling club!

Welcome. My wife and I are just about 66 and 64, respectively. We both ride road and mtn bikes.

I hope you enjoy your biking. Let us know how things go.
