Newbie from Seattle Area

Well, bought a mountain bike early in summer, caught biking bug and stepped into a road bike, did tons of research and decided that I really only wanted one bike, so I said what the "hey" and stepped into an '04 TREK 5200, with Flight deck and spd pdls. Having some issues with hotspots right now, but time should cure that---I hope. Trying to log 130-150 miles per week. I was running about 30 miles per week prior to biking, so my lung capicity is pretty good, legs feel it, but battling the feet thing right now. Any suggestions for the newbie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome to bikeforums, Bludool. I'm from Seattle, too... there's a ton of great biking up here, isn't there? You enjoying the 5200? I'm trying to decide what kind of road bike I'll buy next, and if I go OCLV, it'll definitely be a Trek. But I like the steel ride so much...

When you say you're battling the feet thing, what exactly do you mean? If you're having trouble with cleat alignment and foot pain regarding your shoes, it might be worth looking at getting a professional bike fit. REI does a fit for members for about 30 bucks that includes cleat alignment, knee plumb checking, etc. Just a thought...

Anyways, welcome again, and maybe I'll run into ya around town.

welcome to the forums,

Hotspots can be caused by poorly fitted shoes, or bad cleat position (often times not enough float as well) are your shoes a good fit? and who set up the pedals and cleats on your bike?

hope you get it all worked out

Last night I actually moved the cleats back, and it helped significantly, virtually eliminated the hotspots. I think that I now need to lower my seat slightly though. Thanks for the reply
