Newbie: Inland Empire
Hi, everyone the name here is Jon and the location is the Ontario area. My wife and I are beginner cyclist after decades off the wheels. We have no idea what the "Cycle Tech Talk" is or what most of the terms mean. We just want to start slowly with local rides to get in shape and have fun. It would be fun to ride with other people instead of alone. Our bikes will be basic starter bikes, so if you live in the inland Empire and can ride with us or can help get us started on the right path, please feel free to E-mail me
kr6er@msn.com Jon & Melinda Oh and if anyone knows where's I can find a good pair of double shorts (my pants waist size 40) from say Navara or fox racing in the larger sizes, please let me know. |
Check out the regional forums for people in your area :) .
Don't worry about not knowing the terms, you will pick them up quickly enough. Are you going with road bikes? Welcome to BF! East Hill |
Road Bikes********** I know they are not Mountain Bikes, but that's all.

Hi Jon & Melinda, Are you in Ontario Canada? I have never heard it called the "Inland Empire". If you are from Ontario Canda, where abouts are you located?
|
Thanks East Hill, No mines not a Road Bike. I guess you'd call it a Comfort Bike? Just a basic starter bike to get me off the couch and out into the world. And no Cyberpep, it's not Ontario, Canada, it's Ontario, California. Although I have lots of family in Canada Eh.? ;)
|
Ah, comfort bikes! Head over to the SoCal forum if you haven't already done so...a lot of the folks there are pretty hardcore, but there must be at least one or two groups which have 'no drop' rides that you can join. Just ask :) .

Welcome from a fellow IEer. Definitely say hello in the SoCal Regional forum. If you find yourself in the Riverside area, there are lots of rides here that are a whole bunch of fun, especially the Santa Ana River Trail (SART), where I do most of my riding.
Cheers! |
Well thanks to all the people who stopped in to say hello. And yes Brian the (SART) trail is high on my list of do's! My first rides will be slow and short, after 20 years of sitting around, I need to start slow. But my goal is to ride the Santa Ana River Trail both ways in a day. :D
|
Seems like a tough assignment, but I'll bet within a year you will have accomplished that goal and far more :) .

I remember the shock I felt when I boarded a plane from Oklahoma to San Francisco and found the plane was being diverted to Ontario. Ontario, California, USA that is. A few dozen miles east of Los Angeles. The "Inland Empire" is the growth spill-over from Los Angeles that spilled into Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. ;) Shake and Bake country pierced by the San Andreas and other faults and a lot hotter then cities on the coast.
San Timeteo canyon and the ride out to Cajon Pass were my favorites in that area. |
Yep that's us here in Southern California just waiting for the BIG ONE! We are way over due for the next one to.
