Hello from Bellingham, Washington

I stumbled across the Bike Forums a while back while doing some web research about touring bikes. Eventually I decided to register.

I've been bicycling pretty regularly since about 1960 (age 6), riding the same bike since 1979 when I purchased my first new multi-speed bike, a 10-speed Windsor Super Carrera. I've replaced a lot of parts over the years, but it still goes down the road. When I had a day job I commuted by bike. Now I work from home and have no commute.

My current riding is mostly for fitness and recreation. I try to get out several days a week in warm weather, less in the cold or rainy season. Rides generally run 17-50 miles, averaging 15.5-17.5 mph and depending on the number of hills and the weather. I find I ride slower in the winter.

I've done one tour, from Bellingham down the Pacific coast as far as Bandon, Oregon. That was 660 miles in 11 days, solo and unsupported. I'm thinking of doing some more touring in the future, and have plotted out a circle ride around Washington as close to the border as possible. My map says that's about 1450 miles and I figured about 21 days. I don't know when I'll make the time for it -- maybe 2009.

Hi Mark, it looks as if you've found your way around, including making your way to the PNW forum . Yes, we'd love to see photos of your Windsor in the Classic & Vintage forum.

Have you ever run across TommyL? He also lives in Bellingham.

Welcome to BF!
