Hello from Toronto

Greetings from Ed, 46, from cold snowy Toronto, not that I need to perpetuate any more myths about Canada. Graduated from touring hybrid to road bike late last year and try to get in about 3500 km....oops, I mean about 2000 miles a year. The rural roads outside the city are ideal for long distance rides, and though there are some great recreational bike paths in Toronto, they tend to be over-crowded and narrow. Was down in the Tampa area this past December with my wife and was blown away by the great rail-trails and paved paths, so hope to find more of these in the Southern USA as I intend to visit once or twice every winter. Look forward to great feedback (and humour...I mean humor) from the forum. Now I have to go out and shovel the walk.

Hahahaha Ed, you don't need to perpetuate any sterotypes about Canada--that's what the Winter Cycling forum, and the Toronto Fixed threads are for :D .

Are you out there riding, or is shoveling the walk enough exercise?

Welcome to BF!

Back in the 70s I lived near Finch and Islington and my country ride was up Weston rd to Holland Marsh then West to Hwy 27 and back home. However I think half that ride would now be in the suburbs.

Yes, its now a suburban ride, but once you get to Major Mac - about 5-10 miles north, you are back in the country, so still great riding up there.....but for how much longer? I live in the city so I tend to either take the subway to Finch, or drive further out of the city for nice long rides.

Oh ha! I'm loving Toronto, I'm here right now for business and I live in Orlando. No lies about Tampa, it's great yeah mate. I hope all of this snow and cold isn't keeping you out of the saddle too much. I've been doing free maintenance for some of my mates just so I can borrow their whips. The hotel exercise bike is the closest thing I've had to a decent spin in the last three weeks.
Cheers! Pleasure to greet.
