A new challenge in Kansas

Hello there, all. I have been reading and researching all that I can absorb from this site and more. My wife and I just got done with our first marathon and the only thing I could think about while marathon training was triathlons. So, after many months of running and researching, I finally made my bike purchase, joined a gym to swim and joined BF officially. It's been pretty cold and icy here in Kansas City, so I'm really looking forward to warmer spring weather and the chance to really get out and spread my wings!

Oh, and to save you a post... It's a Trek Madone 4.5.

Hi traes26, good luck with your triathlons! Did you convince your wife to go with triathlons as well?

Welcome to BF!

She doesn't know how to swim too well right now, so she is going to keep competing in marathons. However she realizes what biking and swimming will do for her running, so she will start to train like a tri, just not compete. Which is why I got to get the bike first! :-)

Thanks for the welcome... do you reply to EVERYONE that joins and posts? You are kind of like the Bicycle Santa.

The swimming's the hard part. I never realised growing up that many people never learned to swim (I grew up in California, so it was hard to escape learning).

I am the unofficial BikeForums greeter :p . I like everyone to know that at least one person here is happy that he or she joined, plus this way I can try to lure everyone to my favourite forum--Classic & Vintage :D .

folks around here are generally friendly, for the most part.

hi and welcome from another KC resident. whereabouts in the city are ya?

Western Shawnee. When we started running, it seems like all the hills in KC are just around my house. :-)

Do you know any good rides in JO CO?

Another Kansan-er saying welcome however I am further west in Garden City, soon to be Great Bend. Still cold though so am also waiting for the above 40 degree temps to get some good riding exercize.
keep on enjoying.
