Saying hello

Hi all.

Glad to be aboard. I'm an inexperienced but enthusiastic cyclist, currently looking for a cheap-ish mountain bike as my Scott hybrid (as much as I love it) is not cutting the mustard off road.

I look forward to bombarding you with all sorts of noobish questions!

James

Hi Jim, love that username . What kind of budget are you looking at? Where are you located?

Welcome to BF!

Thanks East Hill.

I'm in the UK and I'd like to keep the price under 300, which I guess is ~$600. I'd prefer to stick with V brakes as I know what I'm doing with them. And I doubt I'd notice the performance increase if I were to go with discs! I've seen a Scott Aspect 50 and a GT Avalanche 3, both 270 and with V brakes.

But I'll probably make a thread once I've shortlisted a few to get some knowledgeable opinions.

All the best

Where are you in the UK? I'm originally from Lancashire, Swinton to be exact.

Oh sorry. I have a habit of assuming everyone on a forum is American! I'm in East Anglia, so I'm quite a way down and to the right.

There's quite a few of us 'furriners' here. In fact, there are moderators who are in Norway, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and Utah.
