Newbie ready to rip.
Just bought my first road bike this morning. 2006 Scattante R-550. I know its a house brand and not a big name, but, for the price you get some great features. Included in the deal was shoes, 2nd set of pedals, helmet, glasses, new resistance trainer, and car rack. The bike has seen limited use and has only minor scratches. All for 500.00. What a deal. I have to buy a shorter stem though. My lbs said I fit a 54-55 and this is a 57. The shorter stem should do the trick.
Anyhow, thanks for listening and any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Charles

Sorry, my profile now says Fresno, Ca. From what I understand, there are lots of good rides in the surrounding mountains.

Welcome to BF.
??? Stems are usually in the 80-140 mm range.
54-55, 57 sounds like a frame size. A new stem won't change the frame size.

ronh,
I know it wont change the frame size, but, will it pull my arms back a tad. The stem on this thing is LONG. I feel good sitting, standing over the bike and cranking. The only problem is that the grips are a little to far away. What I was thinking is getting about an 80-90 stem.
