Hello from South Jersey

I am fairly new to biking but just love it! There are so many great roads to discover here. It's so nice to be able to just go out my front door and start pedaling. I am planning to do the ACS ride in July and am looking forward to that!

And soon it will be spring! I've found these forums full of useful (and not useful but fun) information.

leaving from the front door (to ride) was a selling point of the house we bought!

Thanks for the info on the biking club I will check it out! I live in Burlington County at the Marlton-Medford border so there are plenty of wonderful roads! Do you bike year round? I have done a few cold weather rides and I am looking forward to the spring!

I went to Cape May with my wife 16 yrs ago. We did some casual riding around the town. Beautiful place.

yes, i ride year round! mainly road, some trail, limited recumbent. i led a ride last sunday (road/33 deg F, 7.5 miles start-up club ride). i commute also (12 miles each way, but not yet this year) but my favorite riding is self-contained touring. the lack the free time at this point keeps me from this!

do you ride road specific? what do you ride? log miles?...

my sister was living in marton so i saw a traffic increase during that time (1998-2006). how do you feel riding in sholderless 4 lane roads, with "dummy lane" in the middle? does traffic respect your presence?

we are going to increase road rides, based in cumberland/salem/gloucester counties. let me know if interested!

I do have a road bike a Scott Speedster S60 that Iabsolutely love!! I bought it a Pro Pedals a great bike shop in Hammonton. I would recommend them to anyone and will be taking my sister there in a few weeks to get her a road bike.
I do try and keep track of my miles.
My longest ride to date was from Tabernacle to Batso and back. It was a magnificent ride and took place on the day of the MS 150 so we encountered some of those biker along the way.
I agree with you about the traffic in Marlton I lived here all my life and have seen many changes. My part of Marlton is very close to Medford so the roads are nottoo bad. I try and get out early on the weekends before the traffic. I have noticed there are a few drivers who can't read those "Share the Road" signs!!!
Let me know about the road rides in you area, I would be interested.
Today was a perfect day to get out on the roads!!
Enjoy your rides this weekend!!

I have a bunch of questions for you South Jersey Folks but I won't hijack this thread. I'll post over in the NorthEast Forum.

Celticbiker, how far are you from Pemberton? I put together a few rides around that area. Also how far do you want to ride? I'm up in Cranbury (Century Jersey) and I ride down to Tabernacle. I hope to do a ride to Tuckerton this summer. It'll be a 130 miles. I don't expect you'll be looking to ride that distance.

Hey Neil I am about 20 miles from Pemberton. Towards the end of summer and into the fall I was riding about 35- 40 miles on Saturday and then about 25-30 on Sunday. Speed wise I would say at this point probably 15/16 mph.The few rides that I have done this winter have been shorter and slower. The roads are fairly flat with a few hills. I am hoping to improve on both my distance and speed this year. I am going to do the ACS ride and then hope to do the MS150 in October.
How long have you been riding? It is such a great form of exercise and wonderful way to de-stress! What are the roads like up your way?

I will check out your posts in the North East Forum.

Get to know the Allentown area, great for cycling. Tabernacle has a nice Deli (Nixon's) Rt 563/Tabernacle-Chatsworth Rd.

I've been riding all my life with a layoff for about 5 years from '85 through '90. I started doing centuries and doubles in 2001 and have been mileage nuts since (though I don't bother to record the mileage). Today I did a 50 mile ride to Cookstown (North of Ft. Dix). It was gorgeous!

Up where I am things are interesting, can't go North as the Raritan is in the way, going West is very easy and we can go all the way out to the Delaware, going East is tough for short rides as Rt 9 has very few safe crossings. Going South is always an option and my favorite ride (Lebanon then Sandy Hook are my favorites).
