Another newbie...

Hello all,

I haven't really been on a bike for more than 10 years but prior to that, I rode a couple of hundred miles a week on various different mountain bikes. My last bike before hanging up my cleats was/is a Schwinn Homegrown FS XTR. I am 42 and need to get back into shape so I am thinking about hosing off the old Schwinn, and maybe even picking up a road bike, the new CF Treks look pretty appealing.

Anyway, I live in rural Illinois and have offices in Elk Grove and Chicago - the Elk grove office is pretty close to Busse woods which has some pretty nice bike trails.

When I rode previously I wasn't really involved in any online forums but am pleased to see that there is a thriving online bike community now.

Regards

Jamie

Hi Jamie, we're pleased to have you join us . Are you going to try commuting, or is that just a little too far for you? Are you going to try riding year round?

Welcome to BF!

I live 50 miles from my Chicago office and 35 miles from the Elk Grove office, so I may drive to Elk Grove and do the round trip to Chicago on my bike. I am in both places every day now. There's no way I can do that year round though, it gets pretty cold here and the snow is plentiful. I know some people do it, but I am not one of them, about 20 degrees F (-6C) is my limit and it is often colder than that during the winter.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

That schedule makes it very difficult, doesn't it? It'd be nice to get the Elk Grove to Chicago leg done by bike though .

At least when the weather is nice it would be a nice commute!
