Hi from a London commuter
 

Been reading the Forums (esp the Commuting one) for years now. Not sure I will ever dare to post on there - everyone seems to have these monster commutes and to know so much about everything!

Still, registering is the first step...

Don't worry about posting! You've gotten one up, more will follow. If you just want to dip your toes before hitting the big time, have a gander at Foo. Get to know the community, and then jump in :D . If anyone gives you any grief, just tell them that East Hill said to leave you be ;) .

Besides, you could be one of my relatives :D .

I just started up too. My commute is only around 2.5 miles but it has been doing wonders for my fitness and mental outlook as oil reaches new highs. So welcome and congratulations :-)

Mine is a 7 mile commute on a 1990s rigid MTB with slicks on it and every variety of light sold in the LBS. Sounds a bit lame besides those people who do their hilly 46 mile each way commutes on a fixed!

You're a cyclist. No need to feel bad in comparison to anyone else. You cycle, you benefit, be happy :-)

Good to have you here, I for one know very little except things I learn the hard way, for instance on my first trip to London one of your countrymen saved my life by grabbing my collar and preventing me from stepping into traffic, Look right you silly American. So what do you ride? Pics?

I lived in Sydney when the Olympics were on, and they painted "Look Left" at the pedestrian crossings - but not sure if it did any good!

I ride a 1990s Diamondback MTB (no suspension) with slicks - not sure exactly which vintage as it was inherited from a relative. Perfect for commuting, and irreplaceable - don't know what I will do when it finally dies. Will post some pics when I work out how to do it!

With a little love and care you and she will have years of happiness together. My commuter is a 59 Raleigh Sports , my second bike is a 72 Raleigh 10 speed, both have many miles ahead of them. here's an older pic. of my three speed.

They did that in London when I was there in the mid 70's. ;) Kept us American tourists from getting graunched by buses. :)

Problem is that, at the same time you read the "Look Left", you can sub-consciously read at the same time the one on the opposite kerb that says "Look Right". And your brain says "huh?". And - splat.

I think I'm picking up an American accent from reading this forum.

59 - I'm amazed. Mine is a child by comparison!

A ride to the pub and a pint of Guinness can cure that.
