Howdy from Montana

I started riding again in 1993 as therapy for a knee injury, and fell in love again with bicycles and riding. About 8 years ago I found a perfectly good 20" MTB at the dump and knew a kid that would love it - and love it he did! Then the "rescue mission" bug bit me and I've been salvaging and fixing up bikes ever since. Kids bikes I give away, run-of-the-mill adult bikes I try to sell for a bit over what I've put in. It finally got so overwhelming (why do folks throw away perfectly good old bikes???), I've had to specialize. I now find myself collecting vintage lightweights and the occasional vintage MTBs that strike my fancy (and I know how to work on!). Currently, I seem to always have about 25 - 35 such bikes in my stable at any one time. Rotate some out, rotate some in. Yes, it's an obsession Anyway, my personal rides - for the present - are a Miyata 1000, Bianchi Squadra, Motobecane Grand Jubile, and a Raleigh Competition GS, all late 70's to mid 80's vintage. For foul weather I ride a 1978 Motobecane Mirage, and I have a 1980 Fuji Royale converted to a single speed for when I want a real workout. For trails and rough, steep country, I ride a 1984 Raleigh Mountain Technium Chill. Amazingly, ALL have been salvaged from the dump or purchaced at thrift stores and yard sales.
