Hey y'all!
 

Hey everyone,
I rode my bike almost religiously as a kid, but before high school we moved to a really hilly area, so I stopped riding then. Now I'm in my second year in college and after having my bike stolen last year I'm attempting to get back into riding instead of driving. I'm in L.A. so it should be easy and fun to use the metro and my bike to get around. I do have a question though, I can either use my brother's old bike (about 7-10 years old) which I'm 99% sure was from target or walmart or something, or I can buy an old used Trek (I think there was also a Specialized, but I don't remember for sure) from a local bike shop for 100 bucks. I'm trying to stay away from spending too much money before I'm positive that I will actually use the bike alot (my campus and the surrounding area is also quite hilly). Would you recommend just spending the 100 and giving it a go or trying to stick with the low quality bike for awhile?
Also, I bought an OnGuard Bulldog mini U-Lock for my bike, does anyone know if that kind is any good?

I'd buy the trek...or specialized for 100 bucks. You can't beat the price and you know you're getting something with some quality in the build. The wal-mart bike will be a tank (heavy) and the quality isn't all that good...

Be careful tho...the commuting bug will bite you and you'll be scouring these pages for a vintage steel frame/bike before you know it :D

Hi Jackie, I'd go with the Trek as well...your minilock should be all right as long as you use it correctly!
