New to touring
 

Hello all. I have been interested in touring New England, but have not a clue where to start as far as equipment, a course of action, and the basic knowlege of maintaining a bicycle on the road for long periods of time. I live in Connecticut and have been biking for all my life, am very fit and active. I ride five days out of the week at a local resevoir, utilizing its terrain and smooth pavement, adding 4-6 miles every day to my routine. Hopefully I haven't dragged on here, but to get to the point I was hoping someone could give me some helpful and critical advice on what type of bicycle i would need to pack enough gear to be on the road for weeks at a time, and what kinds of routes should i take in New England to be clear of interstates and within safe camping spots. Local recreational cycling clubs are another good source of ideas. See where the locals in your area go. The Department of Transportation for most states have recommended cycling routes; Kansas, Delaware, and New York come to mind.
