Hi to Bike Forum Members

I retired from road racing a little early at 18 and I am currently in my first season after 20+ year lay off, riding MTB for the Powerade Cycling Team in Monterrey, Mexico. My family is enjoying the return to sporting activities and I have met a lot of warm and generous people, that have shown great camaraderie on and off the bike. Thanks to everyone on these boards for the PF RS2 group buy tip. As a brief introduction, I have shared some of my best biking moments below.

Best race watched: Roche winning 87' Tour
Best race won: 84' UK Eastern Division Senior Pursuit Championship, 24 hours after winning Junior Sprint
Best race finished: Paris Roubaix
Best crash: 08' National Series XC in Monterrey, Mexico
Best rider: Eddy Merckx
Best bike movie: Sunday in Hell
Most interesting bike innovation: Clip less pedals

How did you manage that double in the UK? From a Junior Sprint to a Senior Pursuit?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

First of all, I came to the track competitions in the form of my life. I had competed in the previous weeks’ junior Tour of Wales, holding a podium finish, until we let what proved to be the winning break, get away on the last stage. https://www.juniortourofwales.com.

Secondly, there was no pressure. The Eastern Division runs their annual championships in conjunction with the Mildenhall Rally. Sometimes they host the National Championships as well. All on grass, this is less speed, but all the effort of the velodrome. https://www.mildenhallrally.org.uk/ I was 17 at the time and was 4 days from my 18th birthday. I had already won the sprint and had entered the pursuit in the chance of a good ride. I knocked out Mark Zascke in the semis and beat Brian Churchill in the final. Mark was the 800m national track champion that year and has recently competed at the World Masters Track Championships with silver medals. I was also the only junior in the 8km Mini Milk Race, a national level scratch, and after several attacks had to satisfied with 8th. I even made local TV. I left home 1 week latter, moving to London and start university.

I helped set up the university cycle team and our big focus was cycloportif. I rode my first Paris Roubaix in 85 as an 18 year old and returned also for the 86 and 87 editions.

Anyway, after a considerable absence, I am just happy to back on two wheels and that my family can also start to enjoy the sport.
