Hello from Seattle

Hello Everyone,

I'm in Seattle and 57 yo. I started cycling in 1971 to build up my endurance for rock climbing and quickly fell in love with riding for it's own sake. I still have my original Italvega Campy-equipped Gran Turisimo, which I rode all around the Puget Sound and commuted to work with for several years. There was a period that I was a slug for about 10 years, but then got back into cycling and resistance training to get back in shape and loose some fat. It worked and I am now in pretty good shape for a geezer!

We have a fantastic series of well-connected bike paths here in Seattle, and I live two blocks away from the Burke-Gilman trail.
I also work just a block away, so I have lots of time to ride after work and enjoy longer weekend rides whenever the weather cooperates.

Three years ago my oncologist, an avid cycler, suggested I get a hybrid "comfort" bike, so I picked up a Novaro Metro hybrid from REI. It's a pretty cool bike, but I've never been able to get it adjusted right to survive rides over 25-35 miles without getting some hand numbness and seat pain.

I decided that since you only live once, you may as well enjoy it and went off the deep end. I just ordered a custom made Seven Alaris Ti bike with a Shimano Ultegra kit,12/27 cassette, Seven 5E-XL carbon fork, Seven road handlebars and Mavic Ksryium SL wheels. I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Also, I have issues with about flexibility, neck and shoulder pain, hand numbness, etc. and I like the way Seven fits to my particular needs.

Hi Rascale,

Welcome to the forums!

I know East Hill will jump in here soon, I'm surprised she didn't beat me, she must be on vacation or something. She lives up that way, and is usually very har dto beat to greeting anyone.

I grew up in the Seattle-Tacoma area myself, and will get back thaty way some day. Burial plot purchased and waiting, and I will hopefully make it there in a few years to retire, even before the final stop. Still make it for family visits every few years.

Be sure to check out the Pacific Northwest regional forum, and the 50+ forum... there are bound to be other areas where you can have fun too.

In regards to the new Seven, please advise of your address and if you take a 56 cm road bike! I will help you with a quality control ride.

And if you ride a 48cm, expect me to show up! I will let you check out my Richard Sachs in exchange .

Anyway, hi Rascale! As LD said, I'm your not-so-close neighbour, living down in Kent. There are a multitude of BF members living up your way, though, and you have probably passed many of us on the BG trail without knowing it.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
