Hello to everyone at bike forums!
I have recently begun to ride regularly to work and also out with one of my friends in the parks and trails around Springfield. I currently own a Giant Rincon mountain bike, with thinner tires for the roads. I've put about 90 miles on it so far this summer.
Part of the reason i joined this forum is because I am seeking advice on buying a used road bike. I want to ride more efficiently (and as a result further/faster). Has anyone ridden a 1997 Trek 1220? I am looking to buy one used for around $300. What does the community think?

Welcome. $300 seems a bit much for an eleven year old bike. Before you buy take the bike to a bike shop and ask what they think needs to be fixed and what it might cost. Take that amount off of the $300. Last year "Bicycling" listed several reasonably good low end bikes for $250-$350. New.
No shop? See if some bike club member will take a look at the bike. If the current owner will not let someone have a look at the bike forget about it.

I agree with Ken. Unless that bike is a shining, spotless, virtually untouched gem, it's overpriced.
Of course, it could be that the used bike market is really heating up, but I would still expect to pay closer to a couple of hundred dollars, rather than three hundred. And if anything needs to be repaired, it just makes it more expensive unless you know how to fix things.
