Hello All,
I joined this forum because I was looking to get into cycling and am in the process of trying to build a bike.
I know, I know, building a bike is something I should do after I understand what my preferences are, but:
A. I don't have a whole lot of money (biking is the wrong hobby for that... I should get a part time job as a hobbby)
B. My friend is giving me a completely built 94 Allez for $25 bucks but its slightly too big so I need to build something I can afford. I also just picked up Zinn and the art of Road Bike Maintenance for $25 bucks. Not much invested so far.
I hope to meet other enthusiasts around Renton, WA and the Seattle area as well as other enthusiasts that can give me guidance in building my bike.
I am a pretty easy going guy and like to make new friends. Sometimes I snap though and get REALLY violent. Just kidding.
I have a few questions (will be posting this elsewhere):
1. I am looking to buy a Raleigh 531 frame for $100... is that good deal?
2. Is there anything with regards to bike parts and compatibility that I should know based on age? My plan is to get an older frame and carry over the Allez fork (if it fits) and all of the other parts until I raise money for a integrated break/lever set-up. When I get the newer brake lever set-up, derailleurs, cassette etc., will there be compatibility issues then with having brand new parts?
I appreciate any help with this.

Hello Hiro
! It's always nice to make the acquaintance of someone who may have actually passed me by! I'm up on the Kent East Hill, just about 1/4 mile west of Kentridge HS.
So....is a Raleigh 531 frame a good deal at $100? Yeah, it could be!
You should ask in either the Bicycle Mechanics forum or C & V about the compatibility...
Are you a postal employee?
I am on the Kent East Hill, by the way. You can probably figure out where I am....check into the PNW regional forum, and say hi to the rest of us
.
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions
