Hi from CrankinSteve

I generally ride my Kuota Khan road bike about 3000 miles during the 7 month season -- April - October. Ride a Norco Fluid 2 from time to time on nearby trails. Have a Jamis Coda Sport with panniers for local runs to the store, etc. And when I travel, mostly to Europe, I take my Bike Friday Pocket Rocket Pro. Besides cycling, I like to dine. Most of my time is spent cycling or dining with my wife.

I bike so I can eat. I work so I can cycle.

I cycle to work two to three times each week (34 miles round trip). Takes me about 56 minutes, plus or minus 3.

When I am not traveling by bike, I am usually in my MX-5 Miata. If the weather is rough I am in a Lexus GX.

During the colder months, I snowshoe, hike, and cross-country ski.

I work for The MathWorks, a software company.

I have two sons, 23 and 25. Both are off on their own and enjoying life.

You are a lot faster on your commute than I am! It takes me 45-60 minutes to ride the seven miles one way (I do have a BIG hill on the way though--20% grade).

Have you checked out the Winter Cycling forum? You might enjoy the winter commuting more than you think .

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Me and Winter Commuting

Slowly, over the years, my minimum riding temperature has risen. I used to ride at 25, then 30, and today, I generally find that 40 is my bottom line. So, the only riding I do in the winter is on my mountain bike, moving more slowly through the woods. Also, winter gives me a break from the bike so by the time spring comes I cannot wait to get back on it. By the way, I live on a hill and the last 3/4 of a mile of my ride is up, up, up. Even the driveway is 800 ft of 15%. Oh, the fun.
