Ride Happy Intro

Well, I've been on BikeForums now for over a month now, so I guess it's time to introduce myself. My forum name is "Ride Happy". I'm a 52 year old gay male, and I live in Houston/Montrose. I've been on disabilty since '99 living with AIDS. I returned to riding after a 15 year hiatus to increase my stamina and fitness. I rode in the MS 150 from Houston to Austin in '91, '92 and '93, but stopped riding after being diagnoses with HIV in '93. After that I sold my Trek carbon road bike and focused on my health and general happiness. My current ride is a KHS Urban-Xpress that I've spent more money on than what I paid for it. I've basically turned it into a commuter type bike with fenders, a rack, various accessories, and trunk with panniers for shopping. I've been car free since '99 because disability doesn't pay enough to afford one, and I've learned that a car isn't necessary, even in Houston. My life is simpler today and I've come to enjoy it more than when I was in the rat race working in IT for Toyota as a disaster recovery coordinator and production control analyst. I have plans to get another road bike that I want to turn into a quasi cross bike. I remember the old Schwinn Continental I had back in high school and I really like having the extra brake handles on the upper part of the bars. I ride about 95% of the time late at night to avoid the traffic, crazies, and Houston heat (or crazies in the Houston heat, but I'm lookin forward to the fall when I can ride during the day instead of the bus. I believe that's enough shocking news for now so I'll leave it there. I wish everyone a safe and Happy Ride

Joisus MAN! Hit us with everything all at once!!! Surprised you didn't pinpoint where you have your boo boos with a bandaid on at the moment!!

hehe (j/k)

Glad you posted after being a short term "lurker"! We're safe here and fun - plus there's a lot of different forums to post in. I am a 10 yr car peep here - riding year round. I prefer a mtb as my ride thru the city due to the nasty potholed/sinkholed roads and the junk I ride over - did swap out my mtb tires for a slightly smaller (1.95) tire with a better tread as I was getting a lot of flats with the knobbies (last one was on the side of the road right in back of a factory where 4 idiots were taking a smoking brake - and they smoked their cigs while making kissey noises at me while I fixed my flat. Idiots.

anyways - WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!

Howdy, Tude, thanks for the welcome! I appreciate it. Yes, I guess I was a bit intense, but I figured I might as well get it all out there. Things have a way of getting out there sooner or later. Besides, when you get where I've been there isn't much shock value left. As for the jerkoffs, you should have been lude and crude right back at 'em. They're just given you grief 'cause their fat old wives aren't givin' 'em any.

Just keep Ridin' Happy
