Keeping the old Univega?
Greetings. Looking for some advice regarding buying vice fixing up. Just getting back into the biking scene after many years away. A number of friends are pushing me to purchase a new, higher-end bike (Pinarello, Felt, etc. with a minimum of Ultegra or Chorus groups) to ride with them. I currently have two Cannondale hybrids and a '82 Univega Sportour 12-speed (purchased new) that is in remarkably good condition. It's fitted with Shimano Altus LT and Dia-Compe components. Everything is original and all there. My question is this: is it worthwhile to put some money and effort into this bicycle, or just spend $2-3K on a new one. I always liked the way the Sportour rode and I know that it's a '82 Ford compared to a new Corvette. Should I use it as a beater and buy a new bike, or go the old school route. Thanks,
Sirchauncey

You need to ask on the Classic and Vintage board. someone there will be familiar with the quality of the frame. Don't know whether it will run with the pack, but if its a good frame, I'd try.

Oh, if I still had my '82 Univega Gran Tourismo, I'd be so happy! Great steel frames, classic. Sounds like your friends might not appreciate classic bikes.
