Hello
Hi, my name is Stephen Paddock. I live in Willard, MO just outside of Springfield, MO. I am currently riding a Schwinn World. I have been riding for about one year now. I basically picked up riding because I thought that it was a good way to exercise and save money on gas at the same time.

Hi Stephen, how old is the Schwinn? What's your commute like?

I don't know exactly what year the Schwinn is, but I think that it is an 80's model. I bought it at a garage sale for $20. My commute to school is between 10-15 miles one way. There are quite a few hills along the way since I take a lot of farm roads to stay out of the way of heavier traffic.

I, too, have an old Schwinn World. I want to say it's an '87 because I know I wasn't very old when my dad bought it. He upgraded to a new Trek and gave me the World. Well, I broke the dropout on the front fork and lent him my Motobecane and swore to fix the Schwinn but he dropped $1500 on a new Trek instead.
I still have my Motobecane and an old '75 Schwinn Sprint fixer-upper (fixie-upper?) but the World is my favorite of the three. I used to use it to commute 5 miles (round trip) to work and 26 miles round trip to school when I was at Indiana U.-South Bend.
I used this link to determine the year of my Sprint: https://www.bunchobikes.com/serialnumber2.htm
I'd be interested to hear what you've got yourself riding. Good luck!

Sorry, I just realized that the link I gave you doesn't have listings for anything newer than '82.
Either way, you've got yourself a quality bike. It's no Paramount but it's a durable rider. Just watch out for fork-cracking curbs

For both of you, post some photos in the Classic & Vintage forum, and we'll figure out the year.
For what it's worth, here is the latest addition to my stable:
hehehehehehehehehe, a 1974 Schwinn Paramount .

East Hill, that is a sick and mean thing to do. But goddamn, that's a beautiful bike.
My dad sold his '77 Paramount (AND his Sports Tourer) at a garage sale in '87. Looking back, at 29 with two young kids and no longer able to take a few weeks here and there to make 1000-mile trips, I can see his justification in selling the Paramount. I hope he made at least enough off the sale to pay for the World in full. I, at 4 years old, remember both the garage sale and driving to my grandparents' house outside Chicago to pick up the World. I think thats the only reason I still have it.
The World is still in his garage in PA as I have a hard enough time keeping my other two bikes on my patio here. I'll make sure I take some pics the next time I'm up there, though.

Oh man, that's a sad story . Yes, understandable, but sad, nevertheless.
At least you do have the World .
