Howdy from sunny Florida

Hi everyone. Just discovered this forum while doing some research into tires for my bike. Its an older, (mid 80's), Trek 412 that I got out and dusted off.

I'm looking forward to getting to know this community better, and getting back into cycling.

Artie

(BTW - If I get back into cycling, does that mean I'm re-cycling?) :D

Sure, and if I am tired, and get tired again, I have just retired. This was told to me by a friend named Pete, and his twin brother, repeat.

Anyway, Welcome, and please stop talking about sunny warm Florida (I will be there in 2 weeks)!

We will be having just a "touch" of snow!

I can't complain. I have been able to ride comfortably many days this winter, and come spring, I will be toasting all you humid and hot folks!

Well, I moved here from Ohio, and I kinda miss those snowy winters . . . . . NOT!.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks. (Ooops . . . don't mean to rub it in.)

The sad thing about moving to FL from the north is that when riding in 30 degree weather really did not bother you in the north, after you get acclimated 45 degrees on the bike makes you feel like your cojones are going to fall off.

That is SO true. I grab a sweater now, when it drops to 60!

Of course you do, anything below 70F/21C is cold. :D But then again, I'm a native Floridian.

Usually anything above 60F/16C I can get by without a jacket/sweater on the way to work each morning as the first couple of blocks I still have a bit of residual heat left over from my morning shower. After that the natural body heat kicks in.

My coldest commute so far was 29F/-2C, but digging out my heaviest jacket (which isn't too heavy living in Florida) was sufficient. Actually I got a bit too warm before I arrived at work. If you think people call you crazy biking in during 'that' kind of weather they'll think you're even crazier when you arrive with your jacked unbuttoned complaining about the heat when you get to your office.

This morning it was about 57F/14C coming in and about 75F/24C riding home. Brilliant blue sky with a few stratus clouds to break it up a bit. I skipped the jacket since I didn't want to have to drag it back on the way home.

Heh - part of this is because I brought all these nice sweaters from Ohio,
that I hardly get to wear anymore. So, I look for any opportunity. :p

At 60F, wearing a sweater, I would be sweating so much I would be cold from the evaporating sweat against the wind. A sweater - at 60F - you must be kidding! :D

Yeah, a little bit. ;)

Hey,
We get PLENTY of days where the riding here is just as difficult as up north, for the opposite reason, too blasted hot.

Welcome aboard Artie!
