BIG Newbie From So Cal Needs Advise

I'm a rather large man, I'm 5'-10" & fluctuate between 280 & 300 lbs which is down from my 350 of 2-years ago. I've gotten my blood sugar under control and am no longer considered pre-diabetic. I am an active guy. I walk 2-1/2 miles four days a week, I play the drums, I swim almost everyday during the summer, I do a lot of my own work on my house, both maintenance & home improvements. I eat pretty healthy (low carbs, low sugar) although I'm not on any kind of strict caloric diet. I guess what I'm trying to get across is that I'm not your ordinary fat couch potato kind of guy, I don't mind breaking a sweat.

Summers coming to an end and pretty soon it will be to cold to swim everyday so I'm looking to biking as a new form of exercise. I've been interested in biking for a while now. The problem I'm encountering is the weight issue. Can anybody recommend a bike that is sturdy yet light weight, one that has a comfortable oversize seat and most importantly...is not really expensive.

Thanks for your time...

Welcome aboard. Check out the Clydesdales & Athenas forum, which is for discussion of issues concerning heavier cyclists. They'll have some recommendations.
