Staying warm in the tundra
Hi All -
I'm a 40 something (late end) who is getting back on my skinny wheels after raising a kid until she rides with me. I have too many bikes (is that an oxymoron, is it possible?), but I am enjoying riding again after a long time just riding around the block and to the closest stores. Anyone else dumb enough to ride in the snow on studded tires - I'm still driving to work, but I park the car when I get home most of the time, and am going to try it this winter. Any good suggestions?
BTW - I like fixies (have some) and tubulars - anyone have experience on Tufo's?

snow ride
Welcome to BF. I don't know much about studded tires, but I do know it's possible. I saw a Canadian post (on some other site) where he did ride studded tires (perhaps homemade). I'd try to search BF and if nothing comes up, try to post in a category where it would be most relevant. I hope I don't encounter enough ice and snow to be concerned with studded tires, but I do wish you luck on that quest! By the way, I have learned young riders are great for me to draft! Once again, welcome to BF.

My son commutes through the winter on Nokian studded tires. The studs are carbide so dont wear down like hardened steel, but I notice that a lot have fallen out over the course of a couple of winters. They are pricey. You seem to find the most ice in the vicinity of traffic lights and stop signs where spinning car tires polish the snow into ice.
