CGG from Edmonton, Alberta
CGG . . . not my initials, but a tribute to a great teacher: Cat Gruener-Goss. You may google the name. I'm a relative outsider to bike "culture", though I've been a summer bike commuter for many years. It's only lately that I've plucked up the courage to take tools to my bike. Much practice, repetition and reading of Barnett's Manual will be required, but each iteration builds my courage.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
If you want to get introduced to a little more of the local culture I know of a place... the people there will probably try and convince you to try and commute in the winter and one total wack job will even try to convince you that one can ride when it's -46c.
Other than that he's pretty harmless.

In my mind the term 'bike culture' is associated with the holier-than-thou, tree-hugging, environmentalist, watermelon (green outside, red inside) crowd who agitate and confront on a legalistic, coercive level. As a radical anarcho-capitalist I prefer to advance the case for cycling on the basis of sound economics and freedom. I refuse to compromise my principles for the expedient . . . which makes me feel kinda lonely at times.

My ride (for the past 5 years) has been a Trek Navigator 100 . . . a massive Nazgul charger of a comfort bike with mountain bike tires to withstand our local street conditions - especially in the spring.
