Hi from Illinois

Hi, I am new to the forum, but not to biking. My biking interests include sprint tri, social riding, and unfortunately infrequent mountain biking. My bikes number only three: 2008 Specialized Roubaix Expert Ultegra, 2008 Specialized Langster, and 2003 Specialized Epic. I am not really talented as rider, but love to ride every chance I get, usually 4-5 times a week during bike season in Illinois (March-November). I have been riding about once or twice a week during December and hope to ride at least once a week all winter, if I can. This is my first winter to ride. Usually I stick to the rollers during the winter. I have never done a fast group ride, crit, etc. I do like the sprint tris a lot and do about 6-8 per year, plus about two or three duathlons (2-20-2). I really like the social side of riding, and love to talk bikes too. Bikes are rewarding in so many ways, even just to look at and dream about. Anyway, I am contemplating purchase of my first set of race wheels and may post questions about the experiences of other with carbon wheels, ala Zipp, etc. I also ponder the possible purchase of a trainer. Regrettably, I work too much and this cuts into my riding time some. Thanks in advance for any advice and for your patience. I also hope that I can contribute and not just take from the forum. Doc

Working too much and paying Social Security

Thanks for the condolences Ten Wheels. It is good to pay into Social Security without any expectation of having it there at retirement. But, I am grateful to ride when I can and I get to ride a lot more since my kids moved away to college. Most of my weekday rides are about 11-20 miles, but on the weekends 20-40. Now during the winter, most of the rides are 11 miles, but there are several rolling hills. Its been cold here in central Illinois, and very windy. From what I see in the forums, wind has been a factor in many places. The ice is gone here now, but there is another storm to come over the weekend.

I hope that it is nicer to ride where you are now. I also hope you ride for a living and dont have to pay any Social Security.
