Upgrade crank sprockets
I've bee using an old mountain bike to get around in Sheffield. It's a hilly place and need the lowest gears.
The bike needs some repars so I'm on the old raleigh which turns out to be much more effiecient on the flat but a real strain on the hills; it only has 2 front spockets and the rear speockets are also smaller than the MTB.
What would be the issues for replacing the front crank 2 sprockets with a 3 sprocket variety?

The bike is about 25 years old (16th bithday) - Raleigh Magnum.
The front crank and sprockets were replaced a few years ago.
I think rey're Shimano probably about 8inch & 7inch diameter.
Could do with something like 5inch.
