Ridin' on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona

Greetings from Route 66!
My wife and I have returned to bicycles after 10 years away, though still cycling, just with a motor instead of pedals...

I've bought a new Gary Fisher Wingra and my wife is getting back into it slowly. We've completely overhauled my 30 yr old KHS 1st gen mountain bike and outfitted it with relatively narrow road (26x1.50) tires. We also have a new/used Yakima trailer to haul our granddaughters all over Northern Arizona, just as we hauled their mothers all over San Diego when they were toddlers.

Welcome to the Forums. You'll meet all kinds here. On a cross country trip from LA to DC in 1977, my wife and I rode part of Route 66, from Kingman to Ash Fork, and if I recall correctly we might have even found an abandoned segment to Williams; then we headed north to the Grand Canyon. The opening segment of the movie Repo Man, is of a highway map following that route back towards California.

I fondly recall that song by the Eagles, Take it Easy, because it was running through my mind on that trip, on the first mountain pass I had ever descended, on the Ortega Highway into Lake Elsinore, CA.

Hi Jim,
I'm also fond of that section of road. We've ridden most of 66 from CA through NM, but we were riding motorcycles. We're getting into shape for some local riding, including rides up to the Hopi mesa, which is only about 50 miles from Winslow.
Stay warm,
McQz

Thanks. It's good to be back bicycling. I won't be giving up my scoot anytime soon, but I had forgotten how enjoyable a good healthy sweat can be!
