1988 cannondale

hey,
i'm a 60 year old guy. i used to ride some centuries (in the 80's and 90's). i have an old, 1988 cannondale road bike. i am wondering if i can get this thing updated to use in my first oly triathlon in september 09 or would i be better off selling this bike as "vintage" and putting the money toward a new bike? any opinions? i used to love this thing and i will likely be just above the middle of the pack kind of triathlon finisher (if my marathon standing is any indication).

thanks. that's what i was thinking. it's just that i am teaching with some younger folks who ride and they find my bike kind of dated and laughable.(good naturedly) but i do keep up with them.
