New to this whole thing...Virginia?
Hey everyone. I've haven't been lurking long, and decided to join up and introduce myself.
I've been looking at bikes for a few months and am trying to decide the route I want to take.
My purpose for owning one would be for commuting and hopefully doing some further weekend jaunts.
I have been looking at road or touring bikes for this purpose, and have come to find out that for my budget I have two options.
I could either save up (or finance, which I have been looking at, because I would rather have the bike sooner than later), and buy a new/slightly used bike from a lbs, or purchase an older bike/frame from craigslist or ebay for a different price and work/build up from there. The latter not being as hard for me, seeing as I have friends and family who would be willing to lend me a hand in this area, and have more knowledge on bike mechanics than I have yet to acquire.
Anyway, this is just an introduction. I just got carried away it seems.
These forums have been the most helpful resource for some like myself, and I am happy to be joining the community.
Thanks!

Welcome to BF.
Starting with a used bike is a good way to go.

A used bike can indeed be a good way to start. Check out the regional forums, and then wander over to the Classic & Vintage forum. There's several people over there who can help you out, and may even be in your neighbourhood.
