Aloha from HI.

Hey all...
Have had a life-long love of the bicycle.
BMX and road racing in the late '70s, touring in the '80s, mountain (all types) through the '90s into the 2000s
finally coming full circle back to road cycling again lately...
Started working as a mechanic for the largest shop here around '92, and currently free-lance and teach bicycle maintenance in addition to my regular job.
Recent bike mechanic jobs include the last two Kona Ironman World Championships, Jalpak Mechanical Coordinator for the Honolulu Century Ride and prepping a team for La Ruta.

Hope to be able to share a little and learn some as well.

Aloha and Kung Hee Fat Choy!

Aloha! Nie Hao! GutenTag! Welcome to Bike Forums! Your mechanic skills and advice will be greatly appreciated here. Even though there's a Mechanic's Forum, many people post their maintenance/upgrade problems in their favorite forums.

How's the fixed gear scene in Hawaii?

Hawaiiwrench 01-27-09 11:17 AM

Thanks. Fixie/ss scene here is growing rapidly. Old steel frames that you could not give away a year ago are being snatched up! Specialized tri-spoke wheels??
It's great with more people on bikes for sure. The BMX crew is picking it up fast, bending parts all over the place. My fave is "Can i borrow this bike to go to the store?" and watching a noob getting ejected at the first intersection...

Hmmm, fine sand and salt spray...
Sweaty triathletes and broken roads...
Sure is job security i guess... :)
As a massage therapist i also get some nice crossover. :shrug;
Thanks for the welcome.

Don't forget the pit bulls, no shoulders and monster trucks with tires sticking an extra foot out each side.
