I'm Sam, currently trying to get in shape for a tentative road trip planned for next year to Muir Woods, CA. I'm hear to learn, make friends, and get advice.
I currently have a Mongoose xr-75 and I love the shocks. I've read reviews about it that it's not that great of a bike, but it was cheap (Pawn shop) and I haven't had any problems besides having to replace the seat because my dogs ate it.

It doesn't matter what others say about your ride,as long as you are happy with it. My first bike came from a pawn shop. I loved and rode that bike for 6 years until my ex made me sell it. It was an unknown vintage Ross Professional Gran Tour II. I still miss that bike.
Now I have an Xtra'ed Kona Fire Mountain, I like it. It does almost anything I could want it to except cook supper.

We're hoping to start either past the Smokey Mountains in Tenn. or go visit family in WI and start there, and take about a month and a half to get to Muir Woods, CA and camp along the way. Very leisurely and slow paced. It's not a solid plan yet, but it's a good goal to work towards even if all I gain is getting in great shape since it's a year away.

That sounds like a great trip either way. You might want to check out the Touring forum for more information.
