Newbie with a Merckx
 

Hello, I'm a newbie, love to ride my Kapu around, especially with the AMC and on Cape Cod. Currently living in CT, but moving to Southern NJ soon.

I happen to have an Eddie Merckx, very old, but legit. It's not for racing, looks like a lower end touring model. Any guesses on it's value? I'll post a thread about it in Vintage, but thought I'd mention it also in my introduction.

Looks like a lot of knowledgeable people are on here, and very active, which is great to see. Have a good one.

As far as the value of the Merckx is concerned, it's hard to say. I don't recall Merckx ever making a touring model. However, I believe that the "Eddy Merckx" name had been licensed out to some other manufacturer(s), prior to Merckx opening up his own factory in 1979 or 1980. (I forget the exact date.) Regardless, putting in the miles and enjoying the ride is what's most important.

Speaking of putting in the miles and enjoying the ride, you might want to come out to the Lancaster Bicycle Club's Covered Bridges Metric Century on August 16th. (It's in PA.) A lot of Bike Forums members show up, and it's a great time.

Thanks for the welcome! I'll be riding my Kapu, but I'm just curious about that extra bike I have. I'd also really like to get into tour riding, small tent and camp stove, and just ride for days and days. I've been unemployed since I was laid off December 31st, so this is the time.

The Lancaster Ride sounds great, that's a nice area, good rolling terrain. Count me in.
