makepeacenotkos says hello!

Hey all... I'm a newbie... not just to the site, but relatively to biking as well... 30 year old with less than 5 miles on a bike in a life time. Maybe one day I'll start a thread "Top three reasons one avoids getting on a bike for two decades."

I'm hoping to take this bike here and there, or wherever I want. I doubt I'll be mountain biking, but I wouldn't put it past me to one day look at a hill and say "I want to try that." I imagine I'll be headed to the store, train station, library, etc.... we have a main busy road and a thriving neighborhood community... sidewalks are here and there, but not every where. I could have a bike as soon as tomorrow, and be on my first ride Sunday!

Do have questions though... about to buy my first bicycle, and have really enjoyed my test rides on several brands... but I'm wondering... which is better:

1. Fuji Monterey 3.0 or Trek 7000?
2. Wide tires or thin?
3. Suspension (on the front...?) or no?

So... what do you all think? I've been referencing this site ALOT for reasearch and SUPER impressed with the responses I see from others.

Welcome to BF.

Is there some reason why you're limiting your choices to the two bikes listed? Have you been to more than one bike shop?
Look at lots of bikes and test ride every bike that appeals to you.

I think you mean road bike when you're talking about hills.
Someday I hope you'll understand that hills are your friends -- they make you stronger.

Tires: medium to wide width for the type of riding you'll be doing. (26x1.25 or 26x1.5 or 700x28 to 700x35)
Suspension: no.
