Kind regards from old Europe
Dear Boardies,
I`d like to introduce myself.
My name is Hans, I`m from Vienna, Austria, and I`d like to get in contact with other bikers in
the US. I`m a member of an Austrian Bikeboard and wrote there some of my adventures,
concerning biking.
Since I have retired from my profession as a letterpress printer (that means, I`m not
a youngster anymore), I ride around with my Trek y foil 66, or, if it`s raining, I prefer to read
old books, sitting in beergardens (sounds good, you`ve got to admit it), or, since I`m a
computer newbie, I try to get in touch with masochists, that`s what long distance cyclists are.
When I was a seaman in the German merchant navy, I spent three days in jail in Newport News,
I hope, it will not bother you, as well as the circumstance, that my English is not perfect.
Cordially regards,
Hans
I`d be happy, if someone over there writes back

Welcome Hans from another "youngster" (I'm 64).
Sitting in the beergarden sounds like a great way to spend a rainy day.
Stop by the 50+ forum and introduce yourself to the other "old-timers".
And to speak with others on your side of the pond, visit the Europe Regional subforum.
Glad you found us.

Not so easy
It`s not so easy, for an European, to find the right clicks to answer!
(`Cause it`s an American homepage).
But I want to thank you, for your welcome.
As I told before, everybody, if 50 or 20 years old, might ask me
about touring with the bike in the western Part of Europe, I could give
him (or her) advice, because I`ve done it.
(With my last racing bike I did somewhat like 100.000 Kilometers).
By the way, I`d be interested , how you manage your life just now.
That includes of course cycling too.
I hated PCs, but now I found out, it`s easy to correspond over continents within
some seconds with chaps, I never had learned to know, so it`s a great invention!
Hoping for a response,
whit kind regards,
Hans

We all...
Dear Hendrick,
thanks for your reply!
It does`nt sound very optimistic. Might be, you think I could help you with your complaints,
(I`d like it). Sigmund Freud lived here in Vienna, but, intelligent as he was, he could`nt help
himself. Since the last 40 years we Austrians were (statistically) fighting for the ranking (highscore),
concerning suicide with Hungary and an other Scandinavian country. (I forgot, which one).
California is well known as a state, where only optimistic people are living.
Of course I know, thats a fake, spread by TV.
If you`re older and can`t keep up with the youngsters, (climbing up a hill), as it happens to
me, just go slow. 40 years later they`ll understand what it means, to get no breath anymore.
Please feel free, to write back, but you`ve got to write more about your complaints,
I can`t judge them with the few lines you wrote.
I know this grey cloudy days very well, talking to myself: "Hey Hans, you should do something"!
But I do`nt. I stay in bed and I`m reading or sleeping.
Is your thyroid gland in order? (This could be the reason for your bad mood).
I`ve got no wife and no children, but when the sun shines into my house, blue sky,
I rise up and ride along with my bicycle (Trek y foil, bought by Ebay US), all day long,
I`m really tired and eager for a beer or two in the evening, but sitting in a beergarden,
I feel happy again, `cause I`ve done my miles.
My best wishes,
Hans
