Hey what's up ! Name's Hard6PACK

Hey fellow bikers and fellow Oregonians. Name's Hard6PACK H6P for short. Been riding bikes all my life as most of you all probably. I'm New to Mountain Biking in this area ( Willamette Valley ) and i'm excited to get to some awesome trails I hear of and know of. I ride well used to ride a Schwinn Mesa 08' but as luck would have it my son loves that bike also, so I gave it to him as a gift. I purchased a Aluminum Comp Schwinn as my next new starter bike. It's a real starter because this one came from x-mart, but is a decent bike for the price and what I do. Which is XC some AM and light DH. I was told my bike would break lol, but it has'nt yet. The AL Comp has some decent componentry,
Shimano gears and shifters,
Promax brakes,
Suntour crank,
Suntour 50mm Shocks
6061 New Schwinn N'Litened Silver Label Custom Drawn Aluminum Frame w/ Trail-Tuned Geometry,
Alloy wheels and Kenda tires
and believe it or not a seat that does hurt after long rides lol
All in all a starter bike. I'm not gonna upgrade anything if it breaks I'll get a new part. Oh Pacific Cycle gives it a lifetime warranty. I even experienced this with my daughters Schwinn we purchased off CR. ( bad shock ) called gave the model and serial and they actually sent me out a new fork ! at no cost! WOW. I do support my local LBS I just could'nt afford it twice. Feel free to ask or comment or be a friend as I don't have a riding buddy yet.

a baby in the biking world!

Yeah, pretty sure you are speaking a whole different language with all the abbreviations to boot.
I am brand new to biking. AS in... BRAND NEW. Haven't biked since highschool, and haven't bought my bike yet because I need help in what to buy.
I have gone to a shop, and the guy is trying to sell me a $600 bike. I think that is a bit much for a BEGINNER. I need help, which is how I found this place.
My name is Cayla, I live in Atlanta, and I don't know a thing about biking. I have been wanting to take this up as a hobby for over a year now, and am finally about to buy my first bike. I will use it mostly on paved trails, some roads, a little dirt/gravel.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?!
Thanks guys, I appreciate it!!!

You should look at the Specialized Myka, It's made for women. It cost about $ 410.00 . Check otu WWW.Specialized.Com sorry if your not a female, and if not then look at the HardRock. If you are female still look at HardRock they start at about $ 395.00 .Good Luck.

Yes. I am a WOMAN.
Not just "female"... lol. I am not a dog.
Thank you very much for your help, I appreciate it. I will definitely check it out.
