Newbie from St Louis area

Hi all! I decided a few weeks ago to get back into cycling. As a slighty overweight 47 year old male, mainly for fitness and maybe for a little speed later.

I lurked here for a while to figure out what's up with bikes now and was constantly on craigslist. I finally figured that if I was going to spend over 200 for a used bike I might as well spend a little for a new one and a relationship with a bike shop. As a long time hot rod buff, I'm no stranger to tools and machines and figuring out how they work. Tinkering and modifying are second nature to me. However, I like the idea of a warranty and a new bike with the possibility of a project cafe-type semi-racer in the future.

With that in mind, I went into my LBS yesterday and bought a Giant Cypress ST. I was impressed with how comfortable this bike is. I'll be riding the multitude of parks and paved trails around the STL area. As I learn more more about bikes and riding, I'll buy a used lightweight frame and build that hotrod bike.

Anyway, this forum is great for learning and I hope to make a contribution in the futrure.

Thank You BikeForums.
