Specialized Street Stomper
I recently started cycling for health reason so my friend gave me his bike - Specialized Street Stomper -that was in storage for over 20 years. The bike was hardly ridden, in mint condition, so I changed the seat, added new ergonomic grips, replace the knobby style tires with street tires & a tune-up, total cost $200. The bike rides great for urban rides around Manhattan and my health has improved greatly. Does anyone know the history/background of this bike, the "kids" at the bike shop were too young or weren't born when this bike came out and couldn't tell me anything about it. The Specialized Street Stomper bike that I have is dark blue color, 18 speeds, Shimano SIS thumb shifting system, center-pull brakes system and the original tires were knobby dirt type. Was this bike originally a mountain bike? if so, why was it named "Street Stomper" (implying that it's a street bike, not mountain bike). Also when I shift the gear on the left side of handlebar from 2 to 1, the chain seem too loose (makes a sound), so I have to back the gear to the middle of number 1 and 2. Someone please enlighten me on this bike history. Thanks.
