The Village Bikes of Athens
Hello,
My dad and I just got back into biking and got some new bikes. We run a secondhand/antique/candy shop in a little village in Ontario. We decided to get the old-fashioned style "comfort" bikes to just casually cruise around town. Our store is new and has got us very interested in studying local history, so I wanted to be able to ride around to get a closer look at things. Also, there has been some vandalism and we like the idea of taking a ride at night for fun but also to let people know the streets aren't as dead as they seem. We call them "village bikes" because "comfort" sounds kinda uncool. As soon as we tell people that we decided to get village bikes, they usually agree that it makes a lot more sense for the casual rider than the mountain bikes and racers most people buy. I feel like I could ride this bike for hours, just crawling along on 2nd speed, but it still only takes about 20 minutes to see the whole town!
I have the Supercycle San Pedro (Black/Red)
He has the Schwinn Tim Horton's 40th Anniversary Edition (Red/White)

Pics of the 2 bikes I mentioned.
Here are some pictures of those bikes.
The red and white Schwinn was a prize given in Tim Horton's yearly "Roll up the Rim" giveaway promotion a few years ago now. My dad just bought it off a local bike repair hobbyist. He's going to switch the handlebars for others if possible because they are kinda weird and annoying. You have to keep your knees together or they'll hit the handles plus they hit if you take a slightly sharp turn.
My black/red bike is a Supercycle from Canadian Tire, as are probably the majority of bikes purchased by Canadians. I'm sure it doesn't stack up against the bike shop bikes most cyclist will probably talk about, but I like the idea of having something that people think looks unique and when they look closer they see it's the same brand they're most familiar with. It's very comfortable and fun to ride, the handlebars, gears and brakes are great and it was less than $200 new. I just hope I can find slightly longer replacement posts for the seat and handlebars.

Sherrel's Village Bike
Thought I'd share this picture, too. This is my friend Sherrel's new 1-speed. It's really fun to ride and also only cost about $200, ordered from Home Hardware. I wasn't really aware that these bikes were available and that they're so nice to drive compared to the mountain bikes people seem to regard as "all-purpose." I do think I prefer my 6-speed but Sherrel's 1-speed is surprisingly fun. So if anyone's already wondering if they might like an older-style bike, I'd suggest they probably will!

Those are cool bikes! Very unique. I love the black frame with the red fenders.
