Yet ANOTHER from Austin
Hi everyone,
I am a 28 year-old PhD student in Austin, TX. I have been riding mountain bikes semi-seriously since I was 18, meaning that I had an entry-level bike and rode Walnut Creek a couple times as an undergrad. Since then, I have gotten a more serious bike and have started into the duathlon world (Dirty Du '08!), where I finished in the bottom 20. This was a sign that I while I thought I was a serious cyclist, I was actually something called a "poseur". Triathlons involve swimming, which therefore do not include me.
So now I am getting even more serious, graduating from noob to regular training and longer mileage, more technical stuff. I plan on being in the top 50% in this year's Du. It's so humiliating, because I am usually so naturally athletic, but the Du made me a little girl.
I also commute daily. I am a "single-speeder", but not a fixie. I have already checked out "flame-war" central" in the "Fixie/SS" forum, so bring on the assaults of how I shouldn't be coasting, and then I will say you are an idiot and unsafe, and then you will call me a somethingorother, and then we can all be friends. But I would like to have some gear ratio talk with some Austin SS-ers in the near future.
Bikes:
'08 Cannondale F5: Rock Shox Dart3 (needs upgrade sooo bad)/crank bros mallets/mostly stock
'09 KHS Flite 100 (stock, but pedal and gear changes imminent)
And all my bikes are black, and only black.

Welcome to Bike Forums. I see you have you asbestos suit ready for the SS/FG forum.
Do you have any photos of your bikes?
