Buenos dias from Arkansas......

No........I'm not hispanic nor do I speak Spanish, but I like saying the words.

I live in Winslow, AR in the Ozark Mtns. Native to Memphis, TN, but have been living here for nearly 16yrs.

Like many, many people, I started riding a bicycle when I was real young. It was real natural like. My older sister had one and I was about 5. Just hopped on one day and kept going.......until I hit a car. Then I had to learn how to stop the bike! I've been riding bicycles since then (now 37) and recently took a real liking to vintage bikes. I still have my '91 GT Backwoods........not so vintage, but I also have an '82 Trek 614, a '79 (I believe) Univega Gran Turismo (now my wife's.....really just too small for me), and my wife has an early era Alpine Stars mtn. bike. The Alpine I'm not sure on the year or model, though I did run across a website identifying the bike........just at the moment forget the model. Der...

Anyway, with the two actual "vintage" bikes, I've been doing a lot of research over the webz to learn about them and their components. Not to mention relearning some of the normal repair type stuff I'd kinda forgotten how to do over the years when riding was not happening......due to life, marriage, and occupational demands. I'd found this site and it's forums many, many times in my searches and decided to go ahead and join. Can't say I'll be around a whole lot........due to life and those demanding things.....but, I look forward to meeting some folks and learning a few things. Also, maybe sharing some of my own creativity with cycles.

Thanks for having me. Later!

Matthew

Welcome to Bike Forums, Matthew. You might want to check out the Classic & Vintage forum. Do you have any photos of your bikes?

Thank you. I saw that forum this morning. I will be checking it out, indeed. If it's the one I'm thinking it is, I may have even already seen it in web searches. Guess I'll find out, eh?

No.........no pics as of right now. I do have a camera. I'll have to see if my wife would load them to her computer for me. My 'puter has not been working for almost three months, so I've been borrowing hers....

Thanks for the welcome, too.

I have definitely seen this forum........many times! In fact, Bogester's golden Gran Turismo is what inspired me to vintage rides. I was trying to find any info I could about my own 'Vega and ran across his in google images. I remember my eyes growing rather large and a resounding "YES....That's what I want!!!!" eminating from my mind across the far reaches of the Universe. I really wish that my 'Vega weren't too small, but the 614 that I purchased only a couple of weeks ago for $150 has satisfied the thirst incredibly. Reynolds 531 frame tubes, Ishiwata Mangy 10 stays and forks, and all around great components and geometry. Yes.........I love this bike. It's everything I was trying to get out of the 'Vega with not much luck.
